We've all heard of the statement, "fake it til you make it". What I mean by this in the context of my book in chapter 3: New Stories, is that there are times in our lives where we experience an event or someone says something to us and we make up a story about it. We then add that story to the running storybook about ourselves and often find ourselves actually looking for evidence to support the stories we have in that running repertoire we call our lives.
What i'm proposing is that we have to start to get out of that cycle. We need to notice and identify the stories that we have in that storybook that don't support us in our lives (yes.. for some of us our lives actually aren't what we thought they would turn out to be like. And for some of us we are conscious enough to notice that and we are up for changing it and for others of us we are settling for a life that we think could be better, but 'isn't that bad') and see about getting some new ones that do. No easy feat.
It is about being aware of what stories we are making up as we experience events in our lives and making a conscious effort to change the story (this is just one small way of "change your thinking, change your results"). Whether or not we end up believing them in that moment is of course a different blog, maybe even a different book or seminar. But for now, let's go with: "Fake it til you Make it".
Start acting "as if it is so, even if it isn't so, so that it can be so". Start acting confident or vulnerable or bold (as uncomfortable as that might be) so that it starts to become a part of who you are. In my book I talk about how we actually are all the qualities we think we aren't. It's just that we have forgotten how to be. (You may have forgotten so long ago that you don't even remember being).
So, fake it til you make it my friends. And yes.. at first you will probably even be a little 'inauthentic' because you are not used to 'acting' that way and it will feel like you are putting on an act. At first... you are. Remember... you are 'faking it"!
Have a confident, vulnerable and bold (or anything you wish to be) kinda week.
