I'm not sure I can add anything more to this profound statement. (in the picture). But it wouldn't be much of a blog post if I didn't say something.
I might simply share why this statement means so much to me.
You see, it has been the moments in my life when I think something should look a certain way that I have truly missed some of the best opportunities.
However, do we really know all of the opportunities we miss? I mean, how can we possibly? How can we know if we are looking for one thing and it (an opportunity) appears as something else?
It is also in the moments when I have gone after a goal or a dream that when it didn't look like the picture I had in my head I labeled it as a 'failure'.
Let me give you an example.
In December 2010 I did a women's retreat in Australia. It was a huge success. It booked out within a couple of months and had hundreds of people on a waiting list. So, we actually booked the next weekend to do another retreat.
However, once I was there at the retreat things were not congruent with me. There were certain aspects that were not in alignment with me and my purpose. It didn't look the way I thought it was going to in my head.
So in reaction to it not looking the way I wanted it to, the way I thought it would, the way I had envisioned in my head, I walked away thinking it was a failure.
Did that serve me? Did thinking it was a failure just because it didn't match the idea of what I thought it was going to look like support me in my purpose? No way. No how. It was a complete take.
AND, it was one of the biggest lessons I have had the opportunity to learn as a Purpose Driven entrepreneur.
I learned I need to do what is congruent for me and my God-given mission. And..... I learned that thinking something needs to look a certain way only holds me back. It doesn't allow me to grow and see things just as they are. When I see things just as they are without attaching any meaning to it, then I don't have the chance to make up a story that doesn't serve me.
Reflect back to moments in your own life where you things didn't turn out the way you thought they would. Did it cause you to make up a story in that moment that didn't serve you? Or do you think you may have missed opportunities because of it?
